Vision/ Poor Eyesight/ Conjunctivitis :

Symptoms: blurred vision, headaches, floaters, spots, redness and itching. Below are herbs and supplements aimed at helping blurred vision usually caused by common vision defects such as farsightedness, nearsightedness, or astigmatism. Disturbances of the fluid balance in the eye can also cause blurred vision. These disturbances may be limited to the eye itself, as in eyestrain and excessive tearing, or they may reflect disturbances in fluid balance throughout the body, as in diabetes, high blood pressure and PMS.

Top Superfoods and Supplements for the Eyes:

Black Currant: 200 mg daily.

Bilberry extract or concentrate: 50-300 mg daily.

Lutein: 15-30 mg daily.

Zeaxanthin: 5-10 mg daily.

Vitamin A: 5000-50000 IU daily.

Krill or Omega3 fish oil: 1000-9000mg daily

Eyebright Herb as tea, tincture, or capsules of herb extract + powdered herb. Eyebrights’ reputation for improving eyesight led to its name. It helps the eye and surrounding tissue. When treating styes, inflammation of the eyelids or other infections such as conjunctivitis, it is best to treat the problem both internally and externally. Internally the herbs should be anti-microbial, detoxifying and toning for the whole body, thereby strengthening it to the point where it can ‘throw off ‘ the infection itself. Here is an example of that sort of formula: Bayberry Bark, cayenne, red raspberry leaf, blue flag root, cleavers, echinacea, golden seal, yellow dock, eyebright and poke root. This can be taken three times a day either as a tea or tincture.

My favourite formula is Dr John Christophers eyewash. It is excellent for brightening and healing the eyes and has been known in some cases to remove cataracts and heavy film from the eyes. It is made from equal parts of bayberry bark, eyebright, golden seal root, red raspberry and an eighth part of cayenne pepper. Make this into tea, strain well and put into a glass eye cup. Tip the head back and bathe the eyes in the tea one at a time. There will be a slight burning sensation from the cayenne at first and if it cannot be tolerated, the amount of cayenne can be further reduced. Cayenne causes tearing and cleansing of the eyes. At first you may just be able to blink the eye a number of times and when accustomed to it keep the eye open and bath it for a few minutes. Exercise the eye while doing this as though you were swimming under water. Do this three to six times a day for an acute infection or once or twice a day if you aim to improve your eyesight. Also drink a half cup of this or the above infection formula morning and evenings.

Liver herbs like Dandelion Root and Milk Thistle may be needed for a liver flush. The condition of your liver affects your vision.

Improved eyesight: I have used this protocol on myself and many patients successfully over the years. 20 years ago I failed the routine drivers eye tests. This was also confirmed by an optometrist. I then started using the Dr Christopher eyewash formula three times a day+ drank a liter of carrot juice daily + took a bilberry formula and did Bates and Tibetan eye exercises daily. After 3 months I passed the eye examination. The same scenario has played four times now. Yes I could just get glasses, but with a little work, I can keep my eyesight perfect.Eye fitness is just like any other form of fitness. I have seen the same with patients of all ages. Also I make minimal use of sunglasses. You can keep your eyes in good condition and just need to invest a little time and energy in them. You are told that your eyesight will go downhill with aging and that there is little choice other than getting glasses that gradually allow your eyes to get weaker and weaker. That is a medical myth.

Nutrition for your Eyes:

Many cases of eye damage and vision loss are linked to underlying diseases of one kind or another. Diabetes often leads to hemorrhages in the retina and the vitreous humor, eventually producing blindness. Early cataracts also may be related to diabetes. High blood pressure produces a gradual thickening of the blood vessels inside the eyes that can result in visual impairment and even blindness. Other factors linked to declining eyesight include tobacco smoke ,environmental pollution, the use of alcohol, chemical personal care and household products. These all form toxins and free radicals in the body which require large amounts of nutrients to generate the antioxidants that get rid of them. On top of this people eat lots of foods that are full of chemical additives, colourants and preservatives. Most people live on a denatured nutrient deficient diet. A deficiency of vitamin A alone can lead to various eye problems. Supplementation with the correct vitamins ,amino acids, fats and minerals can help prevent or correct eye trouble. Certain supplements protect against the formation of free radicals, which can damage the eyes. Specific eye problems can be helped  by supplementing the diet with nutrients that show up as deficient. I usually use hair analysis to work out what your body is in need of.

Vital Nutrients:

Taurine: 100-1000 mg daily. Taurine + zinc maintain eye function. It is present in the retina of the eye in high concentrations.

NAC, whey powder, milk thistle or oral glutathione or a drip form powerful antioxidants which protect the lens of the eye. Zinc, B6 and vitamin C are needed for these to be absorbed.

Vitamin A emulsion: vital for proper eye function.25,000IU daily.Less if you are pregnant. Protects the eye from free radicals.Easy to assimilate. Carotenoids are also vital to eye function. They are precursors of vitamin A.

Vitamin C+bioflavonoids: 1000-10000 mg daily. Acts as an antioxidant that reduces intraocular pressure.

Full spectrum Vitamin E

Ginkgo Biloba powder and or extract: 500-5000mg daily.

B Complex. It is needed for intracellular eye metabolism.

Zinc orotate :50-90 mgs daily.Deficiency has been linked to retinal detachment. Zinc is a factor in the metabolic functioning of several enzymes in the chorioretinal complex( the vascular coating of the eye).

Antioxidant Formula: A strong one may cover several of the nutrients mentioned so far.

.Put wet green tea bags over the eyes for blurred vision and inflammed eyes.

Dry Eyes: L-carnosine eye drops. 1-2 drops in each eye one to four times daily. Have your eyes checked for degenerative eye conditions.

Many of the above supplements can be very helpful.

Sugar has an immediate detrimental effect on the eyes. I once helped Dr Kaplan with tests to prove this. Eye tests were carried out on a wide range of people with and without eyesight problems. We then gave the participants cakes and other sources of sugar and re-did the eye tests. After the sugar intake, everyones vision had deteriorated substantially.

Prescription and or over the counter drugs can also cause eye problems. Drugs can damage the the optic nerve, retina or other vital parts of the eye. Everyday common drugs that can do this may be: anti gout medication, aspirin, corticosteriods, diabetic meds, diuretics, antihistamines, heart meds, arthritis meds, streptomycin, sulfa drugs or tetracycline.

The combination of nicotine, sugar and caffeine may temporarily affect vision.

Because the light absorbing retinal pigment is composed of vitamin A and protein, which are continually being used up as images are formed, adequate supplies of these nutrients are vital for proper eye function.

People who work at computers every day are at risk of eyestain headaches, blurred vision, dry or irritated eyes, sensitivity to light, double vision and after images.

Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eye-the membrane that lines the eyelid and wraps around to cover most of the white of the eye. The eyes may appear swollen and bloodshot. They are often itchy and irritated. The eyelids may stick together due to the generation of pus. This may be caused by bacterial or viral infection, injury to the eye, allergies, irritants like fumes, smoke, contact lens solutions, chlorine from swimming pools, make up or any other chemicals that end up in your eyes. It is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection or an allergic reaction :

Colloidal Silver, Echinacea tincture, Golden Seal tincture or capsules.

Vitamin C in large doses. Protects from further inflammation.

Vitamin A oral and topical vitamin A. Also lutein and zeaxanthin.

B vitamins. B2  50mg three times daily. B3 50 mg three times daily.B6 50mg three times daily. An additional B complex would also be helpful.

Zinc. Enhances immune response.

Calendula, chamomile, fennel and eyebright can be made into hot compresses for the eyes to soothe inflammation and irritation. They can be made into an eye rinse using eye cups. Goldenseal can be added to control infection. Apply several hot compresses to the eyes daily. The Dr Christopher eye formula can also be used to rinse the eyes.

Also take anti infective herbs internally several times a day to fight the infection both internally and externally. Barberry, coptis or golden seal fight bacteria.

For swollen eyelids peel and grate a fresh potato, wrap it in gauze and place it over the eyes.

Quercetin, bioflavanoids, pycnogenol, grapeseed and bromelain can all combat infection and help heal the eyes.

If there is no relief in a couple of days, see your doctor.

Functional medicine is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the
healthcare needs of the 21st century. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, functional medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.
Why Do We Need Functional Medicine?
 Our society is experiencing a sharp increase in the number of people who suffer from
complex, chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, mental illness, and
autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis.
 The system of medicine practiced by most physicians is oriented toward acute care, the
diagnosis and treatment of trauma or illness that is of short duration and in need of urgent care, such as appendicitis or a broken leg. Physicians apply specific, prescribed treatments such as drugs or surgery that aim to treat the immediate problem or symptom.
 Unfortunately, the acute-care approach to medicine lacks the proper methodology and tools for preventing and treating complex, chronic disease. In most cases it does not take into account the unique genetic makeup of each individual or factors such as environmental exposures to toxins and the aspects of today’s lifestyle that have a direct influence on the rise in chronic disease in modern Western society.
 There’s a huge gap between research and the way doctors practice. The gap between emerging research in basic sciences and integration into medical practice is enormous as long as 50 years— particularly in the area of complex, chronic illness.
 Most physicians are not adequately trained to assess the underlying causes of complex,
chronic disease and to apply strategies such as nutrition, diet, and exercise to both treat and prevent these illnesses in their patients.
How is Functional Medicine Different?
Functional medicine involves understanding the origins, prevention, and treatment of complex, chronic disease. Hallmarks of a functional medicine approach include:
 Patient-centered care. The focus of functional medicine is on patient-centered care, promoting health as a positive vitality, beyond just the absence of disease. By listening to the patient and learning his or her story, the practitioner brings the patient into the discovery process and tailors treatments that address the individual’s unique needs.
 An integrative, science-based healthcare approach. Functional medicine practitioners look “upstream” to consider the complex web of interactions in the patient’s history, physiology, and lifestyle that can lead to illness. The unique genetic makeup of each patient is considered, along with both internal (mind, body and spirit) and external (physical and social environment) factors that affect total functioning.
 Integrating best medical practices. Functional medicine integrates traditional Western medical practices with what are sometimes considered “alternative” or “integrative” medicine, creating a focus on prevention through nutrition, diet, and exercise; use of the latest laboratory testing and other diagnostic techniques; and prescribed combinations of drugs and/or botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, or stress-management techniques.

Working with a Functional Medicine Practitioner
Functional medicine practitioners promote wellness by focusing on the fundamental underlying factors that influence every patient’s experience of health and disease.
The Functional Medicine Approach to Assessment
The Institute for Functional Medicine teaches practitioners how to assess the patient’s
fundamental clinical imbalances through careful history taking, physical examination, and laboratory testing. The functional medicine practitioner will consider multiple factors, including:
 Environmental inputs – The air you breathe and the water you drink, the particular diet you eat, the quality of the food available to you, your level of physical exercise, and toxic exposures or traumas you have experienced all affect your health.
 Mind-body elements – Psychological, spiritual, and social factors all can have a profound influence on your health. Considering these areas helps the functional medicine practitioner see your health in the context of you as a whole person, not just your physical symptoms.
 Genetic makeup – Although individual genes may make you more susceptible to some diseases,
your DNA is not an unchanging blueprint for your life. Emerging research shows that your genes may be influenced by everything in your environment, as well as your experiences, attitudes, and beliefs.
That means it is possible to change the way genes are activated and expressed.
Through assessment of these underlying causes and triggers of dysfunction, the functional medicine practitioner is able to understand how key processes are affected. These are the body’s processes that keep you alive. Some occur at the cellular level and involve how cells function, repair, and maintain themselves. These processes are related to larger biological functions, such as:
 how your body rids itself of toxins
 regulation of hormones
and neurotransmitters
 immune system function
 inflammatory responses
All of these processes are influenced by both environmental factors and your genetic make-up; when they are disturbed or imbalanced, they lead to symptoms, which can lead to disease if effective interventions are not applied.
A Comprehensive Approach to Treatment
Most imbalances in functionality can be addressed; some can be completely restored to optimum function, and others can be substantially improved.
 Prevention is paramount. Virtually every complex, chronic disease is preceded by long-term disturbances in functionality.
 Changing how the systems function can have a major impact on the patient’s health. The functional medicine practitioner examines a wide array of available interventions and customizes a treatment plan including those with the most impact on underlying functionality.
 Functional medicine expands the clinician’s tool kit. Treatments may include combinations of drugs, botanical medicines, nutritional supplements, therapeutic diets, or detoxification programs.
They may also include counseling on lifestyle, exercise, or stress-management techniques.
 The patient becomes a partner. As a patient, you become an active partner with your functional medicine practitioner. This allows you to really be in charge of improving your own health and changing the outcome of disease.
 digestion and absorption of nutrients and the health of the digestive tract
 structural integrity
 psychological and spiritual equilibrium
 how you produce energy

All of these processes are influenced by both environmental factors and your genetic make up.When your body is disturbed or mind imbalanced, it will lead to symptoms and eventual disease if effective interventions are not applied.

A Comprehensive Approach to Treatment.

  • Most imbalances in functionality can be addressed. Some can be completely restored to optimum function and others can be substantially improved.
  • Prevention is vital. Virtually every complex chronic disease is preceded by long term systemic disturbance.
  • Changing how the systems function can have a major impact on the patient’s health. The functional medicine practitioner examines a wide array of available interventions and customizes a treatment plan including those with the most impact on underlying functionality.

  • The patient becomes a partner. As a patient, you become an active partner with your functional medicine practitioner. This allows you to really be in charge of improving your own health and changing the outcome of disease.

Willpower and Self Discipline

Willpower and Self Discipline

If you have the discipline to do little things you don’t like, you can spend your life doing the big things you do like. Discipline is not everyone’s favourite word. It probably slots in somewhere between dentist and diarrhea. Self discipline makes all the difference. Life is a trade off between instant pleasure and long term reward. Self discipline in the little things-studying instead of television leads to greater knowledge and better qualifications. Self discipline in the little things, for example four sessions at the gym per week = a healthier less stressed body and life. The key to self discipline is not an iron will. It is knowing why you want something. If you really know why you want to get out of debt, it’s easier to save. If you’re clear about why you want to improve your qualifications, it’s easier to study.

Something else about discipline. When you are self disciplined, you don’t need to get discipline from anywhere else. As a result, you run your own life and people don’t tell you what to do. When you don’t have self discipline, you get it from outside. People who can’t discipline themselves often slot into jobs where they take orders. People who have absolutely no self discipline get themselves locked up.

Good habits are your best helpers. Preserve their force by stimulating them with good actions. Bad habits are your worst enemies. They will make you do the things that hurt you most. They are detrimental to your physical, social, mental, moral and spiritual happiness. Starve bad habits by refusing to give them any further food of bad actions.

Paramahamsa Yogananda.

Willpower and Self Discipline are a choice. If you want to live out your highest potential or overcome some weakness, then you need to practice them in every aspect of your life. The mountain of soul achievement cannot be climbed by anyone who lacks control of body, mind and emotions. Willpower and discipline means that you have the ability to carry out a resolution long after the first flush of mood to do so has left you. It involves doing what you have said or theorized you’re going to do.

When you embrace these two virtues you are not at the whim or mercy of external circumstances. They put you in control of what you think, feel, say and do. Without them we tend to be lazy, undirected and usually unhappy. As a health coach, I aim at cultivating willpower and discipline in all my clients. They give you control over your mind, body and emotions. They are vital to achieve your goals and purpose in life. They also bring freedom, peace and exhilaration into your life. For a person who is very unhappy or struggling with major health challenges, relationship problems, financial problems, career or job challenges, willpower and discipline are the strongest driving forces they need to succeed.  If you cultivate these two virtues, you acquire the ability to get things done. No matter what it is you need to get done, you draw on them like you would out of your bank account. Exercising them on the smallest tasks is how you accumulate inner resources that  are essential for greater challenges. I once fasted for 30 days. Before starting I explored taking on a one day fast, then a three day fast, next a ten day fast, a two week fast and finally a 30 day fast. After the 30 day fast, I made major changes in my life. Yes there were some big physical benefits from the fasting, but my self confidence had been so boosted by the fasts that I was easily able to take on new things that were well out of my previous comfort zone. While working towards a daunting goal, remember that you take it on one day at a time. That makes the task a lot easier.

We are all conditioned/brainwashed one way or another. Your earlier life experiences, your traditions, your family values, memes and the prevailing beliefs of your society tend to hold you back in all areas of your life. They gain power and strength through repetition. Repetition is the key to mastery or failure. Every time you are negatively conditioned, you lose a little of your freedom and your capacity to choose. When a negative desire first surfaces, you have to nip it in the bud, eradicate it quickly and firmly. When you feel like junk food, don’t give in. Exercise discipline. Use willpower to choose something healthy to eat or abstain from all food until you feel in control again.Perhaps choose to distract yourself with some activity until the conditioned desire dies down. If you pull this off, it helps to tap on all the EFT points while congratulating and praising yourself. Be a little over the top. Praise yourself way more than you think is necessary. Make a fuss over yourself like you would a child, adult or pet who had pulled off  an impressive act of mastery. This reinforcement is huge ( in Oprahs words) and creates compound interest in your self confidence bank account.

Another test of our discipline and willpower is our conditioning to eat and drink mechanically. How often do you eat compulsively rather than from true hunger? What is your eating and drinking behavior at parties, social gatherings, the movies, when watching television, or attending sports events. Become aware of what you’re eating. Discipline yourself to eat slowly and only when truely hungry. In the spirit of coaching write about your patterns and big or small changes in your journal and share it with someone who is acting as your support system or coach. When you repeat a negative behavior, it develops into a bad habit. To eradicate your negative conditioning, to break bad habits and to strengthen your self-discipline, make a twenty one day agreement with yourself. For example you may want to stop eating before you feel stuffed at mealtimes. Make an agreement with yourself to do that. Resolve to stick with to your agreement every day for twenty one days. If you skip a day, you must begin the twenty one day cycle again. It takes twenty one days to form a new habit or break an old one. After twenty one days, your mind and body stop resisting the change you’re trying to make. Twenty one days isn’t a very long time. If you find your mind coming up with excuses, as it will, you can maintain discipline by reminding yourself that you have to continue for only twenty one days. On the first of every month, make an agreement with yourself to give up some unhealthy habit or to develop a positive new habit. In this way you can make twelve beneficial changes in your life each year.

Keeping your agreements with yourself boosts your self esteem and self confidence. I know how I feel when I say I’m going to do something and I don’t follow through on it. I feel bad. When I stay disciplined and do what I say I’m going to do, I feel empowered. Don’t you have respect for people who keep their word? I lose respect for those who don’t. I have  a few friends and some clients  who make a habit of saying they are going to do something, like start exercising regularly. When I check with them to see how they’re progressing, I hear a litany of excuses. They are dishonouring themselves and letting themselves down. Here is another quote from Yogananda:

It is only when you discard your bad habits that you are really a free man. Until you are a true master, able to command yourself to do the things that you should do, but may not  want to do, you are not a free soul. In that power of self control lies the seed of eternal freedom.

Here lies the core of self coaching. Practicing discipline in every aspect of our lives and keeping our word with ourselves. An external coach is very helpful until we have an impeccible relationship with our own internal coach. One way of mastering this art of inner discipline, willpower, or self coaching that gives swift results is to meditate every morning. I do 10-20 minutes in the morning after a little yoga and qi gong. It takes no longer than 40 minutes in total. It is very valuable to have a routine like this. Even if you are not committed to spiritual growth, meditate for its many practical health benefits. This type of routine  gives you more discipline in other areas of your life. More discipline + willpower = greater inner peace of mind and heart. Discipline is the road to freedom, mastery and peace. It enriches every aspect of your life.

Discipline determines that all aspects of your being obey your will. Your life is then an exciting unfoldment. Discipline over your habits, your thoughts and your actions is essential. When your mind is disciplined, everything else falls into line. You can determine what you are to think. This is true dominion.

                      Donald Curtis.

Taking Action.

1. In what areas of your life do you lack discipline?

2. If you were a disciplined person, how would your life be different?

3. What bad habits would you like to release?

4. What new behaviors or positive habits would you like to adopt?

5. Do you follow through on what you say you’re going to do?

6. Make a twenty one day agreement with yourself today to give up a bad habit.

7. Make your word count today. Follow through on all your agreements with yourself and others.

8. Get up before sunrise tomorrow and celebrate a brand new day of possibility. It takes great discipline to rise before the sun and it’s a wonderful  way to start the day.

9. Turn all bad habits, laziness, unwillingness and frustrations over to God, your Higher Self, the Universal All, the Source of all energy and Life no matter what you call it. Ask for guidance, strength, willpower and discipline.

10. Live in the presence of God, Divine Light, Your Eternal Source.

Tapping Exercise:

While tapping on each EFT/ tapping point say the follow affirmation- I make discipline a way of life for me now. My mind is disciplined, which means my body is disciplined. I give thanks that discipline shines through in everything I think, feel, say and do.

Age Spots. Natural Remedies

Age Spots:

Large brown splotches usually on the face and hands are the result of sun damage. They can appear anywhere on the body as it ages. They are also called liver spots. They are harmless, but can be a sign of more serious problems. They are the result of a buildup of wastes known as lipofuscin accumulation, a by product of free radical damage in skin cells, brain and liver cells. They are indicative of free radical intoxication of the body and may affect many internal structures as well .

Melanin, Age-Related Skin Discoloration, And Pigment-Fading Compounds

  • Melanin is the skin’s color-providing pigment that offers protection against damaging UV rays.
  • As we age, melanin-producing melanocytes become victim to chronic sun exposure, inflammation, free radicals, and hormonal changes.
  • These factors increase activation of a key enzyme called tyrosinase. This leads to the overproduction of melanin, which causes its uneven distribution in the epidermis.
  • The outward appearance of hyperpigmentation soon follows, typically as age spots, freckles, and melasma.
  • As safety concerns mount for the traditional therapy hydroquinone, scientists have zeroed in on three safer alternatives.
  • Alpha-arbutin increased skin lightness 60% over hydroquinone and 25% over kojic acid in human volunteers in one month.
  • Phyllanthus emblica extract deactivates tyrosinase to enhance skin lightness and reduce the appearance of freckles.
  • Niacinamide blocks melanin transfer to the outer layers of the skin, which has been shown to decrease facial hyperpigmentation and improve melasma.
  • Marked changes in the skin’s primary pigment melanin results in undesirable hyperpigmentation that can add years to your perceived age. Fortunately, a topical cream has been formulated with the three natural compounds that show comparable skin lightening effects to hydroquinone without the serious side effects. Three ingredients, alpha-arbutin, Phyllanthus emblica extract, and niacinamide, beneficially modulate melanin synthesis and transfer to reduce the visual appearance of age spots, freckles, and melasma. This translates into more even-toned, radiant, younger-looking skin.

Other Causes:

Poor diet,  smoking, alcohol consumption, poor liver function, lack of exercise, oxidized seed oil consumption and excess sun exposure all contribute to their formation.

External treatment :

Aloe-break off one of the leaves and apply the juicy gel to the age spots twice a day.  Also apply vitamin E oil after sun bathing. Bulbinella can be used in the same way.

Buttermilk. Coat a cotton ball with buttermilk and dab it on the age spots morning and night daily .

Yogurt and honey. Together they make a natural bleach. Blend one part yogurt and one part honey. Apply with fingertips. Let it dry thoroughly and remove .

The formation of lipofuscin is associated with a deficiency of a number of important nutrients, including, including vitamin E, selenium, glutathione, chromium, and dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE).

Limit sun exposure .

Acne. Natural Remedies

An eruption of spots on the skin ,caused by overactivity of the sebaceous glands .Usually found on the face , neck, shoulders and back .

-Acne is most common at puberty due to increased levels of the male sex hormone testosterone . Although men have higher levels of testosterone than women , during puberty there is an increase of testosterone in both sexes , making girls in this age group just as susceptible to acne .Testosterone causes the sebaceous glands to enlarge and produce more sebum .

-Stress.When you are under stress, your body releases high levels of hormones to help you handle the situation. One of these hormones is cortisol , which triggers the pancreas to pump glucose into the bloodstream.Cortisol aggravates the sebaceous glands under the skin , which , in turn produce excess sebum,an oily substance designated to lubricate the skin.

-Congestion of the liver. It may even be caused by falling in love ! The strong emotion brings on a natural cleansing process of the liver.

-In young girls it may be accompanied by delayed menstruation , resulting from hormone imbalance .

-Another cause can be makeup clogging the skins breathing ability and causing allergic reactions.

-Bacteria ,corticosteroids , lithium carbonate , coal tar derivatives  ,iodine , over-washing and repetitive rubbing can cause acne .

Dietary factors:  avoid carbohydrates and or sugars-acne patients’ skin glucose tolerance is significantly impaired-acne may be called “skin diabetes “.Insulin resistance must be treated by chromium supplementation and cutting out carbs and sugars.Eliminate transfatty acids-cooked fats and oils and high fat foods .

Avoid the sun .Overexposure to the sun can worsen acne .

Use non allergic cosmetics sparingly .

-External: tea tree oil can be as effective as benzoyl peroxide.Dab the essential oil onto the trouble spots 3 times a day.Use comfrey or calendula soap for washing the face .Alpha Lipoic Acid cream helps repair facial skin as does ester C cream.

Add a few drops of  the following essential oils to hot water for a  facial steam:bergamot, chamomile, lavender , petigrain ,geranium or lemongrass .These may also be well diluted in a vegetable-oil base to massage into the skin .

Agnus castus or chasteberry capsules or tea regulates hormones.2 cups of the tea is enough.Herbalists have been using this herb to regulate hormones for centuries. If your skin erupts in unsightly bumps when you are having your period or you notice acne like changes in your skin during menopause ,try sipping 1-2 cups of the tea a day .

Vitamin B6- helpful for women with premenstrual acne due to effect on steroid hormone metabolism .50-100 mg daily .

Pantothenic acid.2 –10 grams in divided doses with meals induces regression of lesions without side effects.

MSM.2000-3000mg daily detoxify skin .

Blood cleansing herbs can be taken 3 times a day between meals as tea , tincture or capsules for a few weeks.Burdock root ,cleavers ,Echinacea ,milk thistle ,yellow dock ,dandelion ,red clover are some examples of liver cleansing and blood cleansing herbs .

Either consult a  homeopath for constitional treatment or look the following up in a homeopathic materia medica, calc sulph, silicea, sulphur ,kali bromatum ,pulsatilla ,antimonium crudum ,arsenicum album ,psorinum or carbo veg .

Zinc-30mg two or three times a day .Reduces inflammation and aids healing .

Vitamin A: 10,000 to 30,000 iu three times per day

Chromium Picolinate:200 mcg with each meal

Vitamin E 400 iu per day with selenium 200 mcg per day.

Omega 3 oils: 3,000-6,000 mg per day divided over mealtimes.

Alpha Lipoic Acid capsules 200-500mg daily .

Drink plenty of water to help keep your skin from drying out.

Bowel detox and repopulation are necessary in some persistent cases .

I use colloidal silver and or the rife machine for bad infections  instead of anti biotics ./

Vitamin B complex-important for  healthy skin tone and is an anti stress nutrient for the nerves .

Chlorophyll-cleansing and prevents infections .

Vitamin C—reduces inflammation and promotes healing .

Vitamin D-promotes healing .

Abscess. Natural Remedies

An abscess is formed when pus accumulates in a tissue, organ, or confined space in the body due to infection. Infections are the most common human disorders and can be produced by bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi. A boil is an external abscess. The area may become swollen, inflamed, hot, red and tender. It may result in fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, fever and chills. The material inside it consists of living and dead white blood cells, dead tissue, bacteria and/or toxins, which need to be eliminated by the body. An acute abscess generally responds to treatment within a few days. A chronic abscess is more resistent, the damage is more widespread and takes longer to treat. As with acne, high blood sugar levels are usually present. Avoid sugars.

Go on a green juice fast for 1-3 days.

Take a good look at your Life.

The New Year is perceived as a great chance to start afresh and to see your life in a new light. I believe in evaluating your life at least once a month and preferably once a week.

How is your life going?

I ask all those I coach to look closely at their lives a couple of times a year. Let’s reflect on last year. Grab a pen and paper and write a bit about what happened last year. Be as objective  and compassionate as you can. Be gentle with yourself. Write down and process feelings that may come up because you are doing this. Our egos react with intense emotions plus denial when examined. Persist, focus, work deeply and be kind to yourself.

Take the time to question and challenge your own assumptions about life. Focus on working out what your life is actually about. What are your lifes goals? What  issues  keep on coming up? This is not  what you or others think or imagine they should be. Why do you think you are on earth? I believe we are all on earth to learn and grow.  Handling our issues,  hangups and emotional wounds are  a part of our purpose in life.

Write down the answers to these questions:

  • What were your goals for last year? Did you make them on your own or with your coach or support friends?
  • Did you achieve or progress towards them? Try putting down what percentage of achievement  was made. eg if you were working with me on a health problem, what amount of relief did you achieve? If you were working with weight loss, what percentage of your goal did you achieve? If it relates to depression, how did last year go? If your goal was a relationship or work related matter, how did it go?
  • What worked and what failed?
  • Did you break the agreements that you made with yourself or your coach or mentor? Why?
  • What area of your life did you refuse to look at and  change? It is  useful to see where you are in denial.
  • What are you running away and hiding from? Why?
  • How much do you sabotage your progress?
  • What is your biggest avoidance strategy?
  • Where did procrastination step in? Most of my clients say they procrastinate when it comes to doing internal growth work, or doing exercise, breaking bad habits, or eating healthy food.
  • How  did you work with your journal last year? Setting goals and writing in your journal daily point you in the right direction and ensure that you keep going for it. Your journal helps provide momentum and clarity. Establishing “me” time is vital. Do not confuse this with being selfish. I find that journalling helps me own my ego or dark side. It helps me to break the domination of this negative internal tyrant.
  • Did you step out of your comfort zone last year and make the task of inner work/ growth a priority. Inner growth and learning are the fundamental purpose in life for all of us. Growth is vital in our work life and careers. It is also the lifeblood of relationships and our self nurturing and health programs. It is the sign of a spiritual being having a human experience, instead of a human being trying to be spiritual.
  • How did the holiday season go for you. Did you get enough rest? Did you party too much or too little?
  • Did the holidays leave you rested and refreshed? If not, what did you refuse to do that you needed to do?
  • Did you try to create a balance between work, rest and enjoyment during the year that works for you?
  • How is your health doing?
  • What steps did you take to improve your health this month?
  • What did you fail to do for your health and well being?
  • Celebrate all those health and life improvements that you have made recently.
  • Praise yourself for any work  done on yourself, your health, your career, your relationships and personal growth.

EFT for goal setting:

If you have got this far it may well be time to do some EFT/tapping on the situation to center yourself and deal with the anger or any other emotion that may have emerged because of the work you are doing. Perhaps you needed to do EFT from the moment you began reading this blog. For those who know how to do EFT I  am going to give you a few setup phrases that you repeat while tapping on the side of your hand or karate chop spot:

Even though this subject brings up my low self esteem and self judgement,I love and approve of myself relentlessly.

Even though this exercise brings up………

  • Frustration
  • Resistance
  • Laziness
  • Perfectionism
  • Procrastination
  • Self Criticism
  • Any other negative emotion

I accept myself ,my feelings and my life as a work in progress.

Even though I usually fail at what I do, I now choose to see failure as part of the learning process. I choose  success over failure.

Even though I resist having goals due to fear of failure, commitment or inner rebellion, I accept myself and how I feel anyway.

Even though I experience inner rebellion, I know that my skills and maturity  grow by  responding to challenges.

Even though I have issues about success or expecting to achieve goals, I choose to feel optimistic about my life and go with the flow.

Look at what is happening in your life and what is going on with your health. Look at what you wrote about it and process your feelings about it.You may need to tap some more.

Tapping  dispels negative emotions and beliefs. It also anchors positive beliefs in the mind. Tapping provides relief from the states of confusion and overwhelm that tend to arise when we deal with our internal emotional baggage. Whenever I am in the middle of an emotional eruption, I try and tap. Tapping has helped me  beat sugar  and junk food addiction. It  helps me exercise strength, self control, discipline and the ability to let go in any difficult circumstance. It is a boost to positive resources like strength, focus and commitment.
